Tree of Life – Bukovyna

In the region of Bukovyna, in Western Ukraine, the Tree of Life is a popular embroidery motif. Birds, leaves, and vines are typically stylized with angular shapes, reflecting the linear weave of the fabric. It is also a common rozpys motif,  stencilled onto the exterior walls of homes.
Black is a dominant colour, and repetitive, parallel lines of leaves and flowers are commonly added to the overall composition.
