Poppies

Poppies are the beloved symbol of Ukraine. They have inspired many traditional embroidery patterns and motifs on Pysanky (Easter Eggs). Poppies represent the joy and beauty of youth and are commonly placed in bouquets together with wheat, white daisies, and blue bachelor buttons.

At Christmas a serving of “kutia” (cooked wheat) often includes poppy seeds symbolizing the fertility of God’s creation.
