Tree of Life – Rooster

One of the most popular bird motifs that occurs on the tree of life is the rooster.  As a protective symbol, its presence wards off evil spirits, making it a common motif in folk art like rozpys (decorative painting) from the region of Petrekivka and on pysanky (Easter eggs).

In some beliefs, it has magical powers linked to fertility and abundance. Modern Symbolism of resilience, strength, and hope comes from the Borodyanka Rooster: A ceramic rooster jug found intact on a kitchen cabinet amidst bombed ruins. It became a global symbol of Ukraine’s unbreakable spirit and represents hope and the belief that Ukraine will prevail, even in the face of immense destruction.
