Quilt of Hope
Original Watercolour Painting
Celebrating Women Collection
Historically, the quilting bee was a way of bringing women together. It reduced feelings of isolation, fostered friendship and community spirit, and was an outlet for creative and personal expression.
More recently, the traditional warmth of the quilt has evolved into a blanket of awareness, drawing attention to community issues such as HIV/Aids, Cancer, and Violence.
The motifs incorporated into this image, include pink ribbons symbolic of the pursuit for a cure for breast cancer, and purple ribbons, symbolic of the fight against domestic violence.
The Gold ribbon is an artistic interpretation of “Hope” as we all seek solutions to the many daunting challenges in our life.
