Everlasting Love
Isaiah 55:13 – “…and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the Lord for a name of renown, for an everlasting sign of jubilant exaltation.”
Myrtle (myrtus communis) is a well-known Mediterranean evergreen shrub. It has fragrant green leaves and delicate white flowers that appear in profusion in the summer. Myrtle is one of the four species used at the Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:40) representing the “leafy trees” of the hillside thickets. It often used to decorate the weddings breads of various ethnic communities as a symbol of the “everlasting sign of jubilant exaltation.”
